And he’s thinking, “My wife is going to come in any minute and see me here with the newspaper opened up to the obituaries and she’s going to wonder why I’m crying.” The boy, now a married man, is at home reading the morning paper over coffee. It was a coming-of-age tale about a teenage runaway who hitches a ride to Florida and develops a relationship with the trucker along the way.
